Charly Harrison

Registered Music Therapist

Charly Harrison is a Registered Music Therapist. He completed his Bachelor of Music degree in the UK in 2008 and played in various bands in London before embarking on music projects across the world including India and Cuba, arriving in Australia in 2010.

After working as a musician, composer and guitar teacher in Melbourne for 10 years, he became interested in music therapy when he began teaching guitar students from neurodiverse backgrounds. He then worked as a community musician as part of the MIDDEL project, a research project looking at the effects of music on dementia in Aged Care, and this was the catalyst for pursuing the Master of Music Therapy course via the University of Melbourne.

Charly loves working with people from all ages and backgrounds and he loves the sense of collaboration that is unique with every person. He loves to work closely with the surrounding family and support team of the individual as well as being part of a passionate team of music therapists. His clinical placement experience has included work in acute mental health care, an eating disorder day program and a music therapy program for high school age refugees.

In his spare time Charly enjoys getting out to the ocean as often as possible, whether that means swimming, walking along the shore or just listening to the waves. He likes building musical instruments including guitars and percussion instruments and also enjoys photography.
