What are Music Therapy Groups?
Music therapy groups provide the opportunity for different participants to come together and work towards group related goals with the support of a Registered Music Therapist.
Music therapy groups typically work towards building emotional, cognitive, and physical wellbeing through a range of music therapy interventions such as:
- Live music making
- Singing or song writing
- Playing instruments
- Guided listening and discussion

What does a music therapy group look like?
Whilst we have mentioned what a music therapy group might involve, you will typically find that groups follow a similar structure each week to provide continuity, familiarity, and the opportunity to build on new or existing skills.
This may include a warm up or greeting, group music making, song sharing or sharing the “leader” role, a cool down, and farewell activity.

We offer a range of music therapy groups for different demographics, such as:
- Children

- People with disabilities
- People recovering from illness or injury (i.e. rehabilitation)

We use a range of music therapy techniques to meet the goals of our adult clients including:
- School leavers group
- All abilities choir

- Red choir (partnered with Down Syndrome Queensland)
- Ukulele club
- Parent support group
- Holiday groups
How can I access a music therapy group?
Music therapy group participation can be funded through NDIS or privately. The fee is divided amongst group members.
